Girls night :)

The end of the work week was a little slow/boring. Luckily, I had a girl’s night to look forward to last night!

My two bestest friends came over for dinner, wine, gossip and a sleepover! Maybe would have been a little smoother if our dogs weren’t trying to eat each other. They are in love😉

I made some delicious salmon from Bauer Butcher and some local asparagus. Along with hummus/carrots. I also made some banana ice cream which is so ridiculously easy/tasty, along with TCBY-inspired toppings. Could not have been a better/more-needed night.

G and I went to bootcamp in the morning which is always fun. We both weren’t feeling so hot (especially with all the running after my first day back to Friday morning interval trails run group) so I’m definitely feeling it now in my legs. I love that feeling! We treated ourselves to Thrive smoothies after which really hit the spot.

M is home tonight so I’m super excited! Hopefully he’s up for some fun tomorrow too!

Wednesday, Humpday!

It was a bit of a blah day yesterday, dragged out, tired, a little dreary outside.

But, it happens, and life goes on! Today is already a much better day🙂

I started with a short run, which was probably not the best idea since I had soccer Tuesday night. I knew it was my best/only chance to get out, and I was feeling a little bad for Mac, since he had been a little stuck inside. So I pretended to do a tempo run and only managed ~3-4k, but better than nothing!

I tried a new recipe,

I had high hopes (and did change it a bit) but was a little disappointed. It was good, just not super flavourful. But add a bit more heat and I’m sold! I’ll definitely do some tweaking to make this better. It was super easy and lots of veg servings. I do have to figure out this cauliflower rice business though.

As for today, I did some home strengthening this morning, which I missed, had a graston session with my fav chiropractor Rebecca and now some work, a few meetings (exciting stuff!!) and relaxing. Lovely Thursday.


Soccer & New Sandwich!

Today was though day personally, and a bit of a slow day… Which was good and bad. Time to reflect = good.  Bored Amanda = bad.

We had a soccer game in the humidity! Wow, felt WAY harder when it’s hot/humid. We tied 6-6. My left quad is still giving me some issues and was actually pretty good until I kicked with my left.

I also discovered a new way to eat a sandwich/wrap. I’m trying to stay away from gluten and GF breads don’t cut it, so I found a cool idea of using nori as a wrap. Super low cal/carbs and brings some flavour. Chicken, red pepper hummus, spinach and cucumber. Delic. Should have made more!

It might just be the warm weather, but I have more of a craving for light food and paleo seems easier with veggies in season, so I’ll do pseudo-paleo…. I like my hummus, lentils, brown rice and oatmeal too much! (And chocolate)

First Outdoor Road Ride & Paleo Cookies

Today marked my first outdoor road ride of the year! 40k, warm day and minimal wind. Perfection. Mind you, I was a little drained at the end because riding inside & outside is VERY different, and I didn’t hydrate well. Live and learn.

I was planning to do a track workout, but wasn’t really feeling it. The weather is a little sketchy this week, so I figured this was my best chance to get out on my bike. So glad I did!

We usually either go out by Riverbend–>Bridge St–>Sawmill Rd–>St. Charles Rd OR Victoria St–>Ira Needles/Erbsville; today I did the former which is definitely my favourite route. Quiet roads, bike paths, and a few hills for good measure. It certainly wasn’t my fastest ride, but you have to start somewhere🙂

Matt also informed me yesterday that he is doing to Ride to Conquer Cancer next spring (200k over 2 days), so of course I will join him. We have a year to get back into riding shape!

When I got home, I was craving something sweet & healthy. I try to avoid gluten & dairy (no allergies, just ‘sensitive’) and paleo always seems to pop up. I like the lack of random other crappy flours that are super processed too. At least I like to think these are healthier🙂

I used different chocolate (vega) and a little honey when I ran out of maple syrup. And I cooked them for cookies, super delic!!

I’m hoping this blog will help me knock things off my pinterest board of recipes to try! Wow, that’s addicting, but it’s time to make things instead of just drooling over them.

Lucky for me, M is away for the week, so I just have to fight Mac (the dog) for them.

Now that I have started blogging, I will actually try to take pictures of things… wish me luck!


Welcome to my blog!

This blog will be dedicated to my training and everyday life. Mostly so I can remember what I did a few months ago, basically my online journal.

So if you want to stay and read, feel free, but don’t get too excited.

This weekend kind of marks the beginning of summer — Victoria day weekend. The weather is nice and and a long weekend is never a bad thing.

It also seems to be a time when I like to make extravagant goals for the summer and plan to do everything under the sun.

So, my goals for the summer:

1. Run faster – specifically, run a fast(er) 5k. I have done the distance thing, it’s a great challenge but kind of boring and I don’t like being injured.

2. Get busier at work – I ventured out on my own in January, and am doing pretty well, but I’m impatient and want to be crazy busy this very minute… but it will come and it’s a work in progress. I have another blog that talks about Physio things

3. Try some new recipes – this isn’t the first time I have set this goal… 1 new recipe/week, etc so I think it will always be on my list and something I always strive for… keeps things exciting.

I do have some new exciting things for the summer, with M (the man in my life)…

1. Dirt biking – I have never been, he loves it, so this summer I agreed to go twice (after he ran the Run for the Toad with me last year). Fair trade?

2. Italy! We leave in about 6 weeks! Super excited and we get to watch some good friends get married. It’s a tough life.

3. Mountain biking – seeing a theme here… but I’ve never really done this either, although I do love my road bike.


And because no first post would be complete without a picture of my hilarious dog. It’s pretty hot here today and he was just out running, so he’s a tired boy.
